Leap forward singer, songwriter, and musician Joy Oladokun has been featured on the most recent episode of the acclaimed podcast “Song Exploder,” discussing her track “glance up.”
“glance up” is from Oladokun’s acclaimed primary label debut album, in protection of my very own happiness, which is out now by the use of Amigo Data/Verve Forecast/Republic Data. The album landed on a large number of “Easiest of 2021” lists together with NPR Track, Billboard, Selection, American Songcreator, The Tennessean, Nashville Scene, The Sour Southerner, and lots of extra.
In party of the song, Oladokun will make her debut on PBS’ “Austin Town Limits” this Saturday, January 15 as a part of the mythical program’s forty seventh season and, later this spring, will embark on her first ever headline excursion.
Upcoming presentations come with Austin’s Antone’s, Dallas’ Membership Dada, Los Angeles’ Troubadour (offered out), San Francisco’s Nice American Track Corridor, Seattle’s Neumos, Minneapolis’ High quality Line, Chicago’s Lincoln Corridor, New York’s Bowery Ballroom (offered out), Boston’s Royale, Washington DC’s Union Level, and Nashville’s The Basement East (two nights, one offered out) amongst a number of others. Oladokun will even make her debut at Bonnaroo Track Pageant this summer season.
With in protection of my very own happiness, Oladokun is forging her personal trail, sharing the original point of view she’s won from dwelling in as of late’s international as a black, queer lady and first-generation kid of Nigerian immigrants. Born in Arizona and now dwelling in Nashville, her musical exploration started at age ten when she used to be impressed to be informed guitar after seeing a video of Tracy Chapman—the primary time she’d ever noticed a black lady play the tool.
Again in October of 2021, Oladokun launched her inaugural Spotify Singles recordings, together with a re-work of her authentic track “Sunday” in addition to a canopy of Bonnie Raitt’s vintage “I Can’t Make You Love Me,” that includes the inimitable Jason Isbell.
